Q. Do I have to be registered to participate in this program called CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAM?

A. No. However, when you register, it saves you time going directly to the food service line.


Q. What is the criteria/eligibility for the program?

A. Participants are eligible for registration by:

Being 60 years of age or older.

Having a spouse who is 60 years of age or older.

Accompany an eligible individual who is disabled.

Reside with and be the primary caregiver/provider of an eligible individual.


Q. Are special menus provided to meet special dietary needs whether it be religious, health related or ethnic requirements?

A. When feasible and appropriate, Planning & Service Area IV (PSA IV) Providers must provide special menus to meet special dietary needs arising from health, religious or ethnic requirements of the participants.  Feasibility and appropriateness are determined by whether:

A sufficient number of persons need the special menus to make the preparation practical; and the food and skills necessary to prepare the special menus are available to the program.

*PSA IV Providers may provide therapeutic diets if:

The need has been determined, as evidenced by written diet orders signed by a physician and placed in the participant’s files; the necessary resources are available to the program; and

Either: Supervision is provided by a registered dietician; or the meals are purchased from a qualified agency (hospital or similar facility) whose meal preparation is supervised by a registered dietitian.

The Dietary Guidelines are verified by a nutrition computer analysis.

 The Congregate Meal Program provides two choices:

The menu for the day.

Pre-made salads, including soup, fruit/dessert, bread and milk.


Q. Is there an age limit or is the program available to everyone?

A. Guest, under 60 years of age, must pay the full cost of the meal, $10.00. 


Q. What if my spouse meets the age requirement and I don’t, how can I qualify?

A. See question above for eligibility requirements.

Being 60 years of age or older.

Q. Can I bring my children or grandchildren to the center to eat?

A. Yes. Guests, under 60 years of age, must pay the full cost of the meal, $10.00.


Q. Is there a charge for the program?
  

CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAM includes lunch is served Monday thru Friday 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Reservations are required by 8:30 am or call anytime and leave your dining request on our answering service.  575-682-3022.   The cost to prepare each lunch is $10.00.  A suggested donation of $3 from those age 60 years and older helps to defray the cost; however, no one will be denied services for choosing not to donate.  Guests, under 60 years of age, must pay the full cost of the meal, $10.00.


Q. Can I volunteer for this program?

A. Volunteers are needed to:

*Package Meals On Wheels (MOW)

*Deliver Meals On Wheels (MOW)

*Serving food on the line for the Congregate Meal Program

*Washing dishes for daily meal service.
